Creativity and New Media

The form of New Media I enjoy participating the most is video gaming and one game that I enjoy currently is Rainbow Six Siege. The screenshot above is one of the characters that I particularly enjoy playing is Dokkaebi who is a Korean special forces operator and I have customized her outfit and gun. The basic premise of the game being one side defends a site, i.e. a house, and the other sides goal is to attack the site and complete the objective. Now for creativity this game has changed it up from a typical shooter game in that it tries to have realistic environments where walls are destructible and you can rappel off of buildings. I enjoy having to be more creative in a shooter game where there can be any number of strategies to completing the objective from breaking down entire walls to get to a room to rappelling in from a broken window. An example of the use of Dokkaebi's gadget is when she hacks the phones of the opposing team forcing their phones to start ringing giving Do...

HW Creativity

One of the markets that utilizes the creativity generate by new media is the video game industry. Many games these days from single player to multiplayer rely on it's consumers for feedback and their creativity for new content to add to their product. Something special to this industry is the idea of modding where any user can modify a game to fit their ideal product or add additional content to the game. Modding can extend the lifespan of a game for years on end and one popular example is Minecraft where the developers of the game realized that they could rely on creativity of their players to expand on the game infinitely without a single cost to them while getting free advertising. These mod for Minecraft can vary from exploring fantasy kingdoms and fighting dragons to flying around futuristic cities in a Iron Man suit.  It shows how a company that interacts with their consumers and enable their creative ideas can get so much value in return for little to no investment.

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

These virtual world can be used for a variety of purposes because they can be changed to whatever the creator desires. Common uses are educational, for communication, training, for entertainment and simulation. The pros are that it allows people to train in environments and situations without being in real danger such as soldiers training in virtual worlds for various combat scenarios. It also allows people to communicate in a new "face to face" form without actually being in the same physical room, but in the same virtual room. Some downsides of this technology are that they cannot actually simulated real human sensations at this point meaning we can't smell or feel the virtual environment and we can still tell its a virtual environment through our sight because it's not 100% realistic. These worlds foster creativity because the possibilities aren't limited by the laws of our physical world and creators can make whatever virtual worlds they want from recreations ...

Blog about Twitter

Twitter discussion is far more different than in class or a blackboard discussion in that our opinions are far more wide reaching. Twitter also allows us to share more personal opinions as the other two have a certain level of formality that is inherent to coursework and forces people to censor themselves to a certain extent. Twitter also allows students to see much more posts from other students because blackboard forces you to read each individual post whereas on twitter you can read far more posts by filtering through the right hashtag. In regards to Twitter versus in class discussions it is much more inclusive as people aren't limited by time constraints and introverts are much more likely to participate than if they had to speak up aloud in real life.

Blog: Social networking sites

My initial impressions from visiting Facebook and being a member are that it is very cluttered and filled with a lot of random media such as news, video clips, photos, and advertisements. If I am to be honest I would compare Facebook to a pile of trash with gems in it here and there, but in general I only visit the site to communicate with people on messenger for the convenient fact that many people have Facebook accounts. For Twitter the design is much cleaner without the clutter that Facebook has, but content wise I feel it is the same where its a landfill of misinformation and opposing opinions. I feel that Twitter is mostly functions as a platform for influencers that are well known to reach their supporters such as political leaders or celebrities. A site that I often visit is Reddit where users can choose to visit subreddits that are essentially communities that share a common topic such as the subreddit worldnews where current news in the world is shared or awww where cute pictu...

Blog Social networking

Social networking is a huge part of society today from the day to day life from a regular person to corporate giants everyone uses social networking to their own means. Most companies see social media as a way to advertise and connect to their customers which in turn will increase their revenue and public perception, while most individuals use social media to connect with friends, coworkers, acquaintances, or even just strangers with similar interests. The main benefit of social networking is a shrinking world, anyone can converse and see other people's posts in a matter of seconds with internet access. This an invaluable tool in today's society where your coworker might be in a different state or the person your playing a game with might be in a different country. A downside of social networking is that it can be used maliciously as any other tool created as well as the fact that it has become an all consuming force in today's world where people are always on their phones,...
