My initial impressions from visiting Facebook and being a member are that it is very cluttered and filled with a lot of random media such as news, video clips, photos, and advertisements. If I am to be honest I would compare Facebook to a pile of trash with gems in it here and there, but in general I only visit the site to communicate with people on messenger for the convenient fact that many people have Facebook accounts. For Twitter the design is much cleaner without the clutter that Facebook has, but content wise I feel it is the same where its a landfill of misinformation and opposing opinions. I feel that Twitter is mostly functions as a platform for influencers that are well known to reach their supporters such as political leaders or celebrities. A site that I often visit is Reddit where users can choose to visit subreddits that are essentially communities that share a common topic such as the subreddit worldnews where current news in the world is shared or awww where cute pictures of animals are shared. This approach allows for small communities as well as moderation of what people can post on certain subreddits. Although Reddit has it's faults such as the pitfall of subreddits becoming echo chambers for only those of the same opinion it still is my social media site of choice compared to others. A relatively new social media platform has been Discord where a group can create essentially a huge Skype chat that is split into multiple smaller voice chats. I have been in smaller groups with just my friends and larger servers where there are hundreds of users split into many smaller groups and it's a really innovative new way to talk to friends or strangers.
A form of new media that doesn't exist might become a reality with the development virtual reality technology and it would be a form of teaching through virtual reality gear. When this kind of technology becomes more widespread and common kids in countries or neighborhoods with unsafe environments or just low resources might be able to learn in virtual reality with teachers and they wouldn't be limited by classroom supplies or distance. The classes could have teachers and students from around the world could be in any sort of classroom virtual reality can create. This would allows people to get high quality education from remote areas while still have face to face interaction and conversations.
I definitely agree with you when it comes to Facebook being too cluttered at times. It may seem like all of the information and resources we need might be all clustered up and hard to find. I feel like it would be much better and more intuitive/user friendly if they can further simplify and condense all the resources so that it will be easier for users to navigate on the site. Twitter is a bit different from Facebook since it focuses mainly on providing real time information and updates rather than sharing a broad range of stories through time.
